The Department of Translational PK (Pharmacokinetics)/PD (Pharmacodynamics) Investigative Toxicology (TPPIT) within Janssen Research & Development is seeking for a Scientist with expertise in translational in vitro drug metabolism & pharmacokinetics (DMPK). The successful candidate will join a globally distributed team of dedicated and passionate scientists. Key Responsibilities:
The research scientist within the TPPIT department will take a leading role in designing, conducting, and interpreting translational DMPK studies, all sought at improving our success in bringing differentiated medicines to patients. The key responsibilities of this position will be the following:
- Providing project teams with mechanistic understanding and data integration of the correlation between in vitro and in vivo absorption, distribution, metabolism, excretion (ADME) properties, drug-drug interaction liabilities for enzymes and drug transporters, and the relationship between PK/toxicokinetics and PD response.
- Identifying, evaluating, and implementing novel assays and next generation in vitro models to support the ADME characterization of small molecules and other modalities like oligonucleotides, peptides, antibody-drug conjugates, and others.
- Designing, planning, and conducting hypothesis driven translational research; providing interpretation of data and communicating/reporting results and recommendations to project teams.
- Keeping up to date with current advances in translational DMPK and related fields and applying novel approaches to accelerating research and improving the quality of drug candidates.
- (Co)-authoring/reviewing study reports of DMPK data in preparation for internal governance bodies as well as regulatory agencies.
- Working collaboratively and cross-disciplinary to tackle scientific problems
Qualifications
Education and Experience Requirements:
Required:
- PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Biology, Pharmacology, Biomedical Sciences or equivalent.
- (Hands-on) experience with in vitro liver (e.g. hepatocytes, next generation 2D and 3D fluidics models) and/or gastrointestinal (e.g. intestinal organoids, 3D microtissues, others) and/or other tissue models of relevance (e.g. kidney, brain).
- (Hands-on) experience in in vitro enzymology, drug transporters, drug metabolism, disposition and/or toxicity studies are desired.
- Ability to independently diagnose and design specific tailor-made study packages to address complex compound-specific problems.
- Strong Scientific interest with confirmed capability to perform independent research indicated by a proven scientific track record.
- English, professional level
Preferred:
- Prior postdoctoral experience (1 – 3 years) in a relevant field is a plus.
- Interest/knowledge in PK and bioanalytical assay development (eg LC/MS) are a plus.
- Great teammate with strong interpersonal skills, scientific curiosity, creativity and a strong sense of responsibility and accountability.
